Connections sorting out runners for Royal Ascot
Al Kazeem on Thursday headed the 11 entries for Wednesday's Group 1 Prince of
Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, where he will renew rivalry with Camelot.
Trainer Roger Charlton reported the five-year-old son of Dubawi on course for
the rematch, which follows their initial encounter when the British raider got
the better of last year's triple classic hero by 1 1/2 lengths in the May 26
Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh.
"He's fine and worked well this morning," Charlton said.
Nassau winner The Fugue could make her seasonal return, while Maxios is
poised to ship in from France for the Niarchos Family-Jonathan Pease connection
following his latest win in the May 26 Prix d'Isaphan at Longchamp. Godolphin is
set to rely on last year's Prix du Jockey Club runner-up Saint Baudolino, with
Hong Kong Vase hero Red Cadeaux another possible for the prestigious 10-furlong
feature.
On the same card, Lady Cecil will be represented by Ridgewood Pearl scorer
Chigun after the Oasis Dream four-year-old was supplemented for the Group 2 Duke
of Cambridge.
In other Royal Ascot news, Elusive Kate is likely to meet Animal Kingdom in
Tuesday's Group 1 Queen Anne after pleasing connections in her build-up.
Not seen since finishing third in the Queen Elizabeth II at the venue in
October, the Prix Rothschild-winning daughter of Elusive Quality was the subject
of a positive bulletin from the owner's Racing Manager Patrick Barbe on
Thursday.
"At the moment, I would say she is a very likely runner in the Queen Anne on
Tuesday," he told PA Sport. "(Owner) Mr. (Teruya) Yoshida is coming to see her
run. She is in the (Duke of Cambridge) on Wednesday as well, so plans could
change, but so far the plan is to run on Tuesday. I think there is an 80 percent
chance she will run there."
Flotilla will miss Royal Ascot and instead take in Sunday's Group 1 Prix de
Diane Longines at Chantilly, trainer Mikel Delzangles announced Thursday.
Despite holding an alternative entry in Friday's Group 1 Coronation at the
Royal meeting, the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and Poule d'Essai des
Pouliches heroine will step up in trip in a bid for further classic glory.
"She will stay at home and run at Chantilly on Sunday," her conditioner told
PA Sport. "The way she finished off in the Guineas, we expect 10 furlongs to
suit her. I see her as a filly for all the races over a mile and 10 furlongs but
if she proves herself this weekend we may allow ourselves to dream of her
getting further. If she wins again, the Arc may be something to think about."
