Corinthian to Gainesway; Political Force to stand at

Claiborne

Metropolitan H. (G1) winner CORINTHIAN (Pulpit) will be retired to stand at

Gainesway Farm near Lexington, Kentucky, in 2008, while rival POLITICAL FORCE

(Unbridled's Song) will go to Claiborne Farm near Paris, Kentucky, upon his

retirement from racing. Stud fees for the two competitors will be announced at a

later date.

Corinthian burst onto the scene last year with a length-win in the Fountain

of Youth S. (G2) at Gulfstream Park. Unfortunately, he was disqualified and

placed third for interference in the stretch. Making just one more start as a

sophomore, that coming as a third in an allowance at Saratoga, the James Jerkens

charge returned to competition in early February with an easy 9 1/2-length

victory in allowance/optional claimer. He added a first official stakes win to

his record in the

Gulfstream Park H. (G2) and held off both Political Force and

multiple Grade 1 winner Lawyer Ron (Langfuhr) to take the Met Mile.

"The Met Mile has produced some of the greatest stallions in recent history,"

Gainesway President Antony Beck said. "Corinthian is a superior individual, a

very athletic, well-bred stallion prospect from one of the best stallion

producing female families, which has already produced top sires Sadler's Wells

and Nureyev."

Corinthian, who is out of the unraced Multiply (Easy Goer), was preceded in

stakes glory by his half-brother Desert Hero (Sea Hero), winner of the 1999 San

Rafael S. (G2). His third dam is Number (Nijinsky II), who produced Group 1

winner Jade Robbery (Mr. Prospector) as well as Grade 3 victors Numerous (Mr.

Prospector) and Chequer (Mr. Prospector). Number is a half-sister to French

champion and top sire Nureyev (Northern Dancer) and Irish champion Fairy Bridge

(Bold Reason), herself the dam of another French champion and leading sire in

Sadler's Wells.

Grade 1 hero Political Force broke his maiden at Belmont Park and made just one more start

during his juvenile season to finish second in the Nashua S. (G3). He returned

during Saratoga's meet last year, but wouldn't be seen in stakes competition

again until this season, when he finished third in the Skip Away H. (G3) and

second in the Westchester H. (G3). After his three-quarters of a length

runner-up finish in the Met Mile, the four-year-old got the chance to turn the

tables on Corinthian, which he did successfully when taking the Suburban H. (G1)

next out. The pair met up last out in the Woodward S. (G1), with Lawyer Ron

recording the win while Corinthian was fourth and Political Force just two

lengths farther back in fifth.

"Political Force was raised here at Claiborne, and we're extremely pleased to

have him coming back to stand," said Bernie Sams, a representative of Claiborne.

"We stood his grandsire, Unbridled, and now stand Eddington, another son of

Unbridled, and that has worked well for us. You add the brilliance of this

horse's family, and we see him as a tremendous prospect."

Political Force is out of millionaire Glitter Woman (Glitterman), winner of the 1997

Ashland S. (G1) and second in the next year's Apple Blossom H. (G1) and

Hempstead H. (G1). Glitter Woman is a half-sister to 2001 Breeders' Cup Distaff

(G1) victress Unbridled Elaine (Unbridled's Song)
