Corinthian to miss Triple Crown

CORINTHIAN (Pulpit), who finished first only to be disqualified and placed

third in the Fountain of Youth S. (G2) on March 4 at Gulfstream Park, has a

fracture in his left hind ankle and will miss the Triple Crown, according to the

Daily Racing Form.

Centennial Farms Racing Manager Dr. Stephen Carr said the colt has a "very

small hairline crack on the top of and the front of his long pastern bone in his

left hind ankle."

According to Carr, digital X-rays were needed to confirm the minor fracture. He said the injury may have occurred when Corinthian had an open

gallop over the Belmont Park training track on Saturday.

"It's a common injury," Carr said. "It does not require surgery.

It has a

very good prognosis, and it only requires walking about 30 days for it to heal

and for him to be able to return to training. He will obviously miss the Triple

Crown races and therefore point for such races as the Dwyer (S. [G2] at Belmont

Park on July 4), Jim Dandy (S. [G2] at Saratoga on July 29), and Travers (S. [G1]

at Saratoga on August 26).

Corinthian, a top Kentucky Derby (G1) contender, was pointing toward the

$750,000 Wood Memorial (G1) on April 8 at Aqueduct.
