Acorn S. (G1) heroine COTTON BLOSSOM (Broken Vow) has been retired because of

injuries sustained during the running of the August 4 Test S. (G1), Dogwood

Stable President Cot Campbell announced on Monday. The bay filly finished an

uncharacteristic 10th in the seven-furlong event at Saratoga.

"Cotton Blossom was shipped to Kentucky after she exhibited lameness

following the race, and ultrasounds there have confirmed that there is

significant damage in the sesamoidian ligaments, along with bone chips in the

ankle," Campbell said. "Her future in racing would be very bleak, and it is

clearly indicated that she be retired."

Trained throughout her career by Todd Pletcher, Cotton Blossom compiled a

record of 11-4-2-2, $724,987, while competing in 10 stakes. As a juvenile, she

captured the Schuylerville S. (G3) at the Spa and placed in both the Spinaway S.

(G1) and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1). In addition to capturing the Acorn

at Belmont this season, she garnered the Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay Downs and

placed in the Fantasy S. (G2) and Delaware Oaks (G2).

Out of the stakes-winning For Dixie (Dixieland Band), Cotton Blossom is a

half-sister to 2005 Perryville S. (G3) victor Vicarage, who is also campaigned

by Dogwood. Vicarage was most recently third in the June 23 Sneakbox S. at

Monmouth. This is the family of 17-time stakes winner and sire Full Pocket

(Olden Times), as well as multiple Grade 1 queen Dontstop Themusic (Stop the

Music).

Cotton Blossom will be sold at Fasig-Tipton's Selected Mixed Sale on November

4 in Lexington, Kentucky, and will be consigned by Three Chimneys Farm.
