Becky Winemiller's NOB HILL DEELITE (Afternoon Deelites) posted a head win on

Saturday in the $105,900

Crescent City Derby, one of eight stakes closing out the Fair Grounds at

Louisiana Downs meeting this weekend. Trained by Patrick Mouton, the

three-year-old chestnut rallied under jockey Elvis Perrodin from near the back

in the 1 1/16-mile test to overhaul pacesetter Big Herm (Editor's

Note) at the line.

With the victory, Nob Hill Deelite added a third stakes score to his record,

which now stands at 7-5-1-0 with $219,419 in earnings. He stopped the clock in

1:46 on the fast dirt and, in the process, captured his fourth straight race.

"He's starting to come around and learn what he's got to be doing," Perrodin

said. "He impressed me today because the last 70 yards, he jumped in the bridle

again and gave me a little bit more."

Mouton and Perrodin teamed up for "a little something extra" in the

Crescent City Derby, as the two

visited the winner's circle in the previous race, the $107,400

Lagniappe Ladies S. Stanley B. Seelig's THE BETER MAN CAN (Lord Avie) was

the heavy 1-5 favorite in the 1 1/16-mile test for distaffers and didn't

disappoint her backers or her connections while stopping the teletimer in 1:45

4/5.

The Beter Man Can scored in her sixth stakes race here, moving her line to

12-8-1-0 while increasing her earnings to $385,838.

Rounding out the stakes action at Louisiana Downs on Saturday was Carrol

Castille's ALL WIRED UP (Wire Me Collect). Quickly moving to the front when the

gates opened in the $104,050

Lagniappe Sprint S., the four-year-old bay held a wide advantage throughout,

setting quick fractions of :21 3/5 and :44 3/5, before crossing under the wire 4

1/4 lengths the best. By that point, jockey Marlon St. Julien was already

wrapping up on the Brandon Marks trainee, who went the 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:03

3/5.

"He popped the gate right away and I let him do what he's used to doing," St.

Julien said. "He's the fastest horse in the state right now, I promise you."

All Wired Up captured the Peninsula Gaming Inaugural S. prior to this one and

now owns an 8-5-1-2, $183,457 career mark.
