Dates set for Eclipse Awards, NHC

The National Thoroughbred Racing Association has announced the dates for the

Eclipse Awards and National Handicapping Championships in 2017. The Eclipse

Awards will be back at Gulfstream Park for a fifth consecutive year on January

21, and the National Handicapping Championship will make its fifth straight

appearance at Treasure Island Las Vegas on January 27-29, returning to a

Friday-Sunday format.

In his

Handicapping Insights, Dick Powell discusses Mohaymen's easy win in the

Fountain of Youth (G2) and a couple of promising colts by Bernardini who will

try to make an impact on the Kentucky Derby scene this spring.

Vance Hanson remembers the 50th anniversary of the 1966 Flamingo Stakes,

which featured an amazing performance from Buckpasser and is infamously known

for being a non-betting race despite the presence of eight betting interests at

Hialeah.

Da Big Hoss will try to play a major role in long-distance turf events this year

and jockey Florent Geroux believes in the reformed claimer's potential.
