One year after a lengthy winning streak ground to a halt at Prairie Meadows,

Delaunay returns to the suburban Des Moines track on Friday night in an attempt

to make amends in the $125,000

Iowa Sprint

Handicap over six furlongs.

Owned by local resident Maggi Moss and trained by Tom Amoss, Delaunay entered

the 2013 Iowa Sprint a winner of six straight, including a Grade 2 score in the

seven-furlong Churchill Downs. However, after making a brief lead as the 3-10

favorite, the Smoke Glacken gelding wound up second, 1 3/4 lengths behind Gentleman's Bet.

Delaunay raced just once more the remainder of the season, finishing fourth in

the Alfred G. Vanderbilt Handicap at Saratoga.

In four starts this term, the seven-year-old has won twice, most recently

taking the Aristides at Churchill Downs by 3 1/2 lengths. Robby Albarado will

substitute for the injured Rosie Napravnik aboard the likely favorite.

Bringing a six-race win streak into this Iowa Sprint is Work All

Week, an Illinois-bred last seen taking the $100,000 Hot Springs at Oaklawn Park

on March 8. The speedy Midwest Thoroughbreds-owned gelding, also a two-time

stakes winner in Illinois-bred company last season, figures to take some

catching under Chris Emigh.

Mico Margarita, a Grade 3 winner at Calder as a three-year-old last year, has

won only once in his past seven starts, that being the $60,000 Oak Hall at

Evangeline Downs in April. Last time, the Steve Asmussen trainee could only be

fourth after a slow start in the Aristides.

Alsvid, runner-up three times in stakes at Oaklawn before capturing the

$75,000 Prairie Express on May 24, is joined by that race's runner-up,

Apprehender, who has twice won the King Cotton at Oaklawn. The field is rounded

out by the allowance-class Frederico.

Tom Amoss also has a serious contender for the $100,000

Iowa

Distaff in Quiet Success, an allowance scorer at Fair Grounds and Delta

Downs who finished a close second in the $200,000 Sugar Maple at Charles Town in

April. Also lining up in the 1 1/16-mile test for fillies and mares are the top

three finishers from the May 26 Wild Rose at Prairie Meadows -- Hung the Moon,

Hitechnoweenie, and Glorys Last Chance -- and Diva's Diamond, a two-time winner

of the Peach of It Handicap for Illinois-breds at Hawthorne.

Livi Makenzie was cross-entered in the Iowa Distaff and the $100,000

Saylorville, a six-furlong dash the Ron Moquett pupil won last season as a

3-2 favorite. Among the favorites on the morning line are Dancin' Lil, Flashy

Campaign, and American Sugar.
