Dominguez suffers dislocated clavicle, Camacho uninjured

following spill at Aqueduct

Jockey Ramon Dominguez and apprentice rider Samuel Camacho Jr. were released

Sunday evening from North Shore University Hospital where they were transported

following a spill in this afternoon's 8TH race at Aqueduct.

According to the NYRA Jockey Advocate, X-rays were negative on Camacho, while

Dominguez suffered a dislocated, but not fractured, clavicle. Camacho is

expected to ride Wednesday as scheduled, but reigning Eclipse champion Dominguez

will miss an unspecified amount of time.

"I'm not in any pain and will follow up with my doctors tomorrow," Dominguez

said by phone. "The X-rays showed no fractures and the doctors said I would not

need surgery."

In Sunday's race, an allowance contest for three-year-old New York-bred

fillies, Dominguez's mount, Mob Wife, stumbled and fell in the stretch,

unseating her rider. Camacho's mount, Suave N Sassy, then collided with Mob

Wife, causing Camacho to fall as well. Neither horse appeared to be seriously

injured in the incident.

Both Dominguez, 35, and Camacho, 20, are Venezuelan born. Dominguez led all

riders with 104 wins during the inner track meet that concluded Sunday. Camacho,

who began riding at Aqueduct on January 15 after starting his U.S. career at

Gulfstream Park last year, finished 10th in the standings with 21 winners.

In related news, jockey Ryan Curatolo was released from Jamaica Hospital Medical Center

Saturday evening after being diagnosed with a back strain, according to the NYRA

jockey advocate. Curatolo was unseated when his mount, Deferred Risk, broke down

in Saturday's 7TH race at Aqueduct. Deferred Risk was reportedly euthanized.

Curatolo's agent, Bob Klesaris, said the jockey hopes to ride as scheduled on

Wednesday.

"He's sore today, but he'll be OK," Klesaris said.
