Dunkelberger earns milestone 3,000th win

Last updated: 11/29/07 11:27 AM

Jockey Travis Dunkelberger reached the 3,000-win plateau when he guided Casey

Doon (In Case) to victory in Wednesday's 8TH race at Laurel Park, his only mount

on the day's card. The 30-year-old becomes the 140th rider to reach the

milestone, according to Equibase.

Casey Doon set the pace in the six-furlong allowance/optional claimer and

coasted home to win by a length for trainer Benny Feliciano.

"I never really thought about milestones," said Dunkelberger, who ranked in

the top five nationally in wins in 2000 (352 victories) and 2001 (395). "I just

try to go out and ride horse to horse and not worry about numbers. I have ridden

a lot of nice horses for many good trainers."

Dunkelberger, who won the 2001 Barbara Fritchie Handicap (G2) when he guided

17-1 shot Prized Stamp to an upset victory for Dale Capuano, has ridden seven

winners in one day twice: Charles Town (March 30, 2000) and Timonium (August 30,

2000).

Three weeks ago at Laurel, Mario Pino became the 15th rider in history to win

6,000 career races.
