Fasig-Tipton New York-bred Sale posts slight gains

Last updated: 8/8/10 10:10 PM

A colt from the first crop of Grade 2 winner Half Ours sold to Buzz Chace,

agent for West Point Thoroughbreds, for the top price of $100,000 at Saturday

night's opening session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga New York-bred Preferred

Yearlings Sale, which posted slight gains across the board.

Fasig-Tipton reported 52 yearlings sold for $1,822,000, an increase of 1.6

percent from last year, when $1,792,500 was realized, also by 52 head. The

average likewise rose 1.6 percent, from $34,471 to $35,038, while the $27,500

median witnessed a 1.9 percent climb from the $27,000 in 2009. The buy-back rate

of 29.7 percent was a much more encouraging figure than the 50.5 percent of one

year ago.

Consigned by Thorndale Farm, agent, as Hip No. 341, the session topper is the

second foal from Dixie Lyrics (Dixie Union), a half-sister to multiple stakes

scorer Leo's Last Hurrahy (Leo Castelli). The April 14 gray colt hails from the

family of multiple Grade 1 victor Influent (Ascot Knight), multiple Group 1

winner Tel Quel (Fr) (Akarad), Group 1 scorer Execute (Suave Dancer) and Grade 2

hero Whadjathink (Seattle Song).

An $82,000 filly from the first crop of Stonesider was the second-best seller

on the night. Brooklyn Boyz Stables purchased the dark bay from the consignment

of Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services, agent. The filly with the February 26

birthday is out of the winning Distinctive Pro mare Katina K, who is herself a

daughter of Grade 3 queen Darlin Momma (Night Invader).

The second and final session was held Sunday evening. For complete results, log onto fasigtipton.com.
