First foals for Invasor, Corinthian

Last updated: 1/12/09 6:45 PM

The first reported foal by Horse of the Year INVASOR (Arg) (Candy Stripes)

was born Sunday at Shadwell Farm near Lexington, Kentucky. Bred by Shadwell, the

bay colt is out of the stakes-winning Danehill mare, Abby Road (Ire). She is out

of a winning half-sister to leading sire Unbridled's Song. Abby Road will be

bred back to Shadwell stallion Daaher.

Invasor won Eclipse Awards as champion older male and Horse of the Year for

2006, following victories in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1), Whitney H. (G1),

Pimlico Special H. (G1) and Suburban H. (G1). He won the 2007 Donn H. (G1) and

Dubai World Cup (UAE-G1) before injury forced his retirement to stud at

Shadwell.

Invasor will stand for $28,000, live foal, in 2009.

Also arriving Sunday was the first foal by Metropolitan H. (G1) and Breeders'

Cup Dirt Mile winner CORINTHIAN (Pulpit). Foaled Sunday evening at Gainesway

Farm near Lexington, the filly is the first foal from Sister Kit (Storm Cat),

who is owned by Gainesway Thoroughbreds Ltd. Sister Kit is a half-sister to

Grade 3-placed Warrior Girl (War Chant) and is from the female family of Group 2

winner Arkadian Hero (Trempolino) and the stakes-winning Beware of the Cat

(Caveat), the dam of European two-year-old champion Hold That Tiger (Storm Cat)

and Belmont S. (G1) hero Editor's Note (Forty Niner).

"Corinthian bred a top book of mares in 2008, and if this filly is any

indication, breeders will be thrilled with his progeny," reported Gainesway's

Michael Hernon. "She is a most attractive filly, with good leg underneath her,

lots of bone and substance and full of vitality. We are delighted with her."

Corinthian stands at Gainesway, and is priced at $30,000 live foal, payable

stand and nurse for 2009.
