First winner rolls in for Silver Wagon
Multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire SILVER WAGON (Wagon Limit) was
represented by his first winner as a freshman sire when D C's Mission prevailed
in Friday's
race at Arapahoe Park. After vying for the early lead in the $10,000 maiden
claiming event, the 9-5 favorite pulled away and crossed the wire three-quarters
of a length in front. Vince Guerra guided the Scott Rollins-trained juvenile
colt through 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:06 4/5 on the fast track.
Silver Wagon made a splash at Saratoga as a two-year-old, romping by four
lengths in the 2003 Hopeful S. (G1) after his 7 1/2-length maiden triumph. The
aptly-named gray scored his other stakes victories as an older horse, taking the
2007 Carter H. (G1) and General George H. (G2) as well as the 2006 Sport Page H.
(G3).
Silver Wagon's resume also features a total of eight stakes placings. Best of
the rest behind Ghostzapper in the 2005 Metropolitan H. (G1), he cracked the top
three in such major contests as the 2004 Fountain of Youth S. (G2) and Holy Bull
S. (G3), the 2005 Forego S. (G1) and Commonwealth S. (G2), and the 2007 Sunshine
Millions Classic.
Following his five-season campaign, Silver Wagon retired with $1,162,193 in
earnings from his 25-7-3-6 record.
Silver Wagon is out of the winning Darn That Alarm mare So Ritzy, making him
a full brother to multiple Grade 3-placed stakes victor Rehoboth. So Ritzy is
herself a half-sister to Grade 3 queen Race Artist (Mr. Prospector), the dam of
Grade 2-placed stakes veteran Cherokee Artist (Cherokee Run) and Grade 3-placed
stakes winner Cherokee Girl (Cherokee Run).
The 10-year-old Silver Wagon stands at Vinery near Hudson, New York, where
his 2011 fee was listed as private.
