Flatter colt brings $280,000 at first OBS juvenile session
Whispering Oaks Farm acquired a son of Flatter for $280,000 at Tuesday's
first session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Spring Sale of
Two-Year-Olds in Training. Consigned by Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds, agent,
the April 17 colt toured the ring as Hip No. 161.
The Ohio-bred was reared by the multiple stakes-placed Mrs. Debbie M (War
Chant), who is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed stakes winner Omniscient
(Pulpit). This extended family has also produced Grade 2 winner Alberts Hope
(Run Away and Hide) and Grade 3 victors Valid Expectations (Valid Appeal) and
Little Sister (Valid Appeal).
Let out of the ring unsold for $87,000 at the Keeneland September sale, the
session topper worked one furlong in :10 1/5 at last week's under tack show.
A Pioneerof the Nile colt sold to trainer John Kimmel, agent for Tobey
Morton, for $270,000. Hip 273 was offered by Paul Sharp, agent.
The March 15 Kentucky-bred is a son of Grade 3-placed stakes winner Princess
Belle (Mr. Greeley), a half-sister to multiple stakes winners Ocala Frame (Fire
Dancer) and Paula's Girl (Phone Trick).
Previously sold for $120,000 as a Keeneland November weanling and $130,000 as
a Fasig-Tipton October yearling, the dark bay worked one furlong in :10 2/5 at
the under tack show.
At the conclusion of trading Monday, 163 horses sold for $9,642,700, a
decline of 19.3 percent from the corresponding session in 2014 when 186
juveniles brought $11,952,500. The average dropped 7.9 percent, from $64,261 to
$59,158, while the median rose 5 percent, from $40,000 to $42,000.
The sale continues daily through Friday with sessions beginning at 10:30 a.m.
