A competitive field of nine fillies and mares will settle Saturday's $100,000
Floral Park H. (G3) at Belmont Park, and STORMY KISS (Arg) (Bernstein) rates top
billing. A Group 1-winning sprinter in Argentina last year, the four-year-old
miss was imported to the United States and transferred to Barclay Tagg this
season. She captured her second start in America, earning a 103 BRIS Speed
rating for a 4 1/2-length romp at Belmont, and two starts later recorded an
excellent win in the six-furlong Honorable Miss H. (G2) at Saratoga, receiving a
107 Speed rating after gamely withstanding repeated challenges on the lead.
Stormy Kiss was overmatched against Dubai Escapade (Awesome Again) when
finishing third in the seven-furlong Ballerina Breeders' Cup S. (G1) last
time, but she won't face any rivals of that caliber on Saturday. She'll likely
relish the cut back in distance and looks very capable of winning on the front
end.
Test S. (G1) winner SWAP FLIPAROO (Exchange Rate) has previous experience
against older rivals, finishing an excellent second to Grade 1 winner Behaving
Badly (Pioneering) in the Genuine Risk Breeders' Cup H. (G2) two starts back,
leaving Stormy Kiss behind in third, and she could run past all her rivals in the stretch here. The gray sophomore's
late kick has been improving in her recent starts, but Swap Fliparoo is winless
from four starts at six furlongs. She's also finished second five times from
seven previous attempts at Belmont. We'll tab her for another runner-up placing.
GREAT INTENTIONS (Cat Thief) is two for two at Belmont, winning the First
Flight H. (G2) last October, and we'll throw out her unplaced effort last time
on the grass. She's tough at six furlongs on the main track (6-3-1-1), and the
stalker will probably be sitting a perfect trip during the early stages. The
Michael Hushion charge likely needed her last start off a freshening, and she's
trained forwardly since then. We'll use her in the top three.
INDIAN FLARE (Cherokee Run) checked in fourth when making her stakes debut in
the Ballerina, and the Bobby Frankel pupil is eligible to keep improving. She
disappointed at a short price in her lone previous appearance at Belmont,
finishing second in an allowance/optional claiming event, but Indian Flare has
made good progress since then. She appears capable of offering a challenge from
just off the pace.
EVER ELUSIVE (Forestry) is better than she showed when fading to fifth in the
Honorable Miss. The Todd Pletcher trainee could certainly bounce back while
returning to Belmont, and the stalker will have a quick pace to close into.
Consider for the gimmicks. FOR ALL WE KNOW (Stephen Got Even) hasn't started
since February, and the Grade 2 winner might need one off the shelf. The
four-year-old miss remains a threat if ready to go, but she's probably gearing up for her next start at Keeneland.
Trainer Allen Jerkens will add blinkers to GRECIAN LOVER (Friendly Lover),
but the six-furlong distance concerns us. The four-year-old appears more
effective at seven furlongs or a mile. WIN MCCOOL (Giant's Causeway) didn't make
the lead after being bumped at the break in the Test. She probably will come out winging
it before weakening. PRETTY IMPOSING (Defrere) would need an easy early lead to
be a serious factor, and she won't get it.
