Intercontinental utilized a new running style to take the Galaxy

(Harold Roth/Horsephotos.com)

Juddmonte Farms' homebred INTERCONTINENTAL (GB) (Danehill) took the lead soon

after the start and powered clear a relatively easy winner of the $400,000

Galaxy S. (G2) at Keeneland on Sunday. Breaking sharply beneath Jerry

Bailey, the often hard to handle mare went to the lead easily and never proved

difficult for her jockey, completing the mile in 1:37 2/5 over the firm turf

course. The Bobby Frankel trainee was bet down to 4-5 odds and gave back $3.60,

$2.20 and $2.20.

Wend (Pulpit) was unlucky not to have a better fate in this one, as the lass

was very wide throughout and fell short by a diminishing three-quarters-of-a-length. The second choice paid $3.20 and $4.40 and was on the bottom of the

$12.20 exacta. Katdogawn (GB) (Bahhare) was in contention along the rail but

could never seriously threaten for the top prize, ultimately settling for the

show spot worth $6.60. The 16-1 shot completed the $80.80 trifecta. La Reina (A.P. Indy) was next and concluded the $438.80 superfecta at 17-1.

Very Very (Royal Academy) was next and followed by River Belle (GB) (Lahib),

Shaconage (El Prado [Ire]), Ticker Tape (GB) (Royal Applause [GB]) and Pretty

Jane (Subordination).

Intercontinental continues to add to an impressive resume, moving her mark to

21-12-3-4 with earnings of $1,501,263. The lass has reeled off wins in the

Matriarch S. (G1), Palomar Breeders' Cup H. (G2), Royal Heroine S. (G3), the

last two runnings of the Jenny Wiley S. (G3) and the 2004 Just a Game Breeders'

Cup H. (G2).

The winner was bred in England by Juddmonte Farms and produced from the highly

productive stakes winner Hasili (Kahyasi), who has produced in succession, Group

2 hero Dansili (GB) (Danehill), champion and Grade 1 heroine Banks Hill (GB) (Danehill),

multiple Grade 1-winning lass Heat Haze (GB) (Green Desert), Intercontinental,

and Group 2 hero Cacique (GB) (Danehill). Hasili has since produced an unraced

two-year-old colt named Champs Elysees (GB) (Danehill).
