Galileo colt tops New Zealand National Weanling Sale

Last updated: 5/8/06 7:01 PM

A colt by young sire Galileo (Ire) elicited a NZ$150,000 bid from Lyndhurst

Farm to lead the way at the New Zealand Bloodstock's inaugural National Weanling

Sale, which took place Sunday at Karaka. Cataloged as Hip No. 218, the

sale-topper is out of the Last Tycoon (Ire) mare Liberty Song and is a half to

Smuggler's Song (Dr Devious [Ire]), a stakes winner in Ireland. From the

extended family of Loup Sauvage and Loup Solitaire, he was sold by Curraghmore

Stud, agent.

The only other horse to realize six figures was Hip 260, a son of Pins who

was knocked down to Ascot Farm for NZ$110,000. The September 29 foal, consigned

to the sale by Walnut Hill Farms, is out of Pegarah (Grosvenor) and is a half to

Kerry O'Reilly (O'Reilly), a two-time New Zealand Group 2 winner.

Sunday's single-session event saw 202 horses sell for NZ$2,304,000, an

average of NZ$11,406 and a median of NZ$6,000. The sale enjoyed a solid

clearance rate of 84 percent.
