Ghostzapper breezes
Horse of the Year GHOSTZAPPER (Awesome Again) breezed six furlongs in 1:13
1/5 over a fast track at Belmont Park on Monday in advance of his scheduled
five-year-old debut in the $750,000 Metropolitan H. (G1) on Memorial Day.
The Bobby Frankel trainee has not started since his three-length victory in the
Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) on October 30 at Lone Star Park. The bay horse was
undefeated in four starts last year, winning the Woodward S. (G1), Philip H.
Iselin Breeders' Cup H. (G3) and Tom Fool H. (G2) by a combined 15 lengths.
Ghostzapper has recorded 12 works this year in preparation for his seasonal
bow, the most recent being six furlongs in 1:11 4/5 last Tuesday at Belmont Park.
Among those expected to oppose Ghostzapper are FOREST DANGER (Forestry) and
MEDALLIST (Touch Gold), one-two in the Carter H. (G1), as well as SIR SHACKLETON (Miswaki), POMEROY (Boundary) and SILVER WAGON (Wagon Limit).
SWINGFORTHEFENCES (Boston Harbor), runner-up in the Westchester H. (G3) last
out,
is considered possible.
