Grade 1 winner and $2.9 million earner GO BETWEEN (Point Given) died

following a workout Monday morning at Payson Park due to a heart problem,

Blood-Horse reports. Owned and bred by Peter Vesgo, the Bill Mott-trained

horse was preparing for his seasonal debut in the January 24 Sunshine Millions

program.

"It's a devastation, really," Vesgo said. It's a real blow. He was terrific.

He was the epitome of the highs and lows of the breeding business."

Winner of last year's Pacific Classic (G1), the six-year-old chestnut earned

$2,908,880 from a 27-8-7-6 line. Go Between also captured the Sunshine Millions

Classic last season and finished second in the Santa Anita H. (G1) and Hollywood

Gold Cup (G1). His seven stakes victories included wins in the Virginia Derby

(G2) and Palm Beach S. (G3) in 2006 as well as the 2007 Fayette S. (G3). The

Florida-bred concluded his racing career with a fifth in the Breeders' Cup

Classic (G1) in late October.

Go Between worked six furlongs in 1:17 4/5 on Monday morning. He returned to

the barn afterward and was cooling out when a problem was detected with his

heart rate.

"It was off the chart, and the vet started treatments to stabilize the

heart," Vesgo said. "The best they could get it down to was 200 beats per

minute. He laid down in his stall, and Bill (Mott) said about an hour later he

died."

Vesgo said no further tests will be conducted to determine the exact cause of

death, and Go Between's ashes will be buried at his farm near Ocala, Florida.
