Go Swiftly brings $250,000; Keeneland sets new sales mark

Nine days into Keeneland's 15-day November Breeding Stock Sale, the

Lexington, Kentucky, sales company established a new November gross sales record. Through nine sessions, 2,141 horses have changed hands

for $321,774,400, up 7.8 percent from 2006 when $298,422,400 was realized by

2,169 horses. The average price is up 9.2 percent, from $137,585 to $150,292,

while the median of $65,000 remained unchanged.

"We are delighted to break the record with six days left in the sale", said

Geoffrey Russell, Keeneland's director of sales. "This is a very cosmopolitan

sale, and the strength of foreign currencies against the U.S. dollar has made it

eve more attractive to international buyers."

GO SWIFTLY (Gone West), a two-year-old racing or stallion prospect, sold for

the top price of $250,000 on Tuesday. The colt, who has finished second in

his last two starts against maiden special weight foes in Kentucky, was

purchased by Brous, Wachtel, Preferred Pals, Stetanski and Iwinski.

Cataloged as Hip No. 3371, Go Swiftly is a full brother to 2007 Prairie

Meadows Oaks heroine and Raven Run S. (G2) runner-up West Coast Swing and a

half-brother to stakes winner Paiota Falls (Kris S.). He is out of the unraced

Danzig mare Dance Swiftly, a full sister to Canadian Horse of the Year Dance

Smartly, the dam of Canadian champion Dancethruthedawn (Mr. Prospector). His

second dam, champion Classy 'N Smart (Smarten), also produced Grade 1 winner and

leading sire Smart Strike (Mr. Prospector), Canadian Grade 1 winner Full of

Wonder (Mr. Prospector) and Canadian Grade 2 winner Strike Smartly (Mr.

Prospector).

The session topper was consigned by WinStar Racing, agent.

The highest-priced broodmare, FULL FLAVOR (Smart Strike), sold for $150,000.

L'Ormarins Ltd. purchased the four-year-old, who is in foal on a April 7 cover

to Wando, from the consignment of Lane's End, agent.

Full Flavor is a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Knockadoon (Dixieland Band) as

well as stakes winner Play the Corners (Clever Trick) and stakes-placed Smooth

Deputy (Silver Deputy). She is out of Grade 3-placed Double Smooth (Overskate),

a half-sister to stakes winners Interactive (Slewpy) and Mutarjjam (Stop the

Music).

Full Flavor was cataloged as Hip 3159.

A colt by Indian Charlie was the highest-priced weanling, bringing $140,000

from Ben Glass, agent. The bay colt is the second foal out of the winning

Hennessy mare Cheri Chardoneigh, who is a half-sister to Canadian Grade 3 winner

Fifth Overture (Pulpit). The mare is also a half-sister to stakes winner and

Grade 1-placed Gold From the West (West by West), the dam of Grade 3-placed

Rutledge Ballado (Saint Ballado), and stakes winner Lake Music (Salt Lake), the

dam of stakes winner Spanish Lullaby (Lite the Fuse).

Cataloged as Hip 3099, the Kentucky-bred was consigned by Ashview Farm (Mr.

and Mrs. Wayne G Lyster III), agent.

On the second Tuesday, 268 horses sold for $8,200,300, a 7.7 percent increase

compared to the same session last year when 248 horses sold for $7,615,000. The

average price was down slightly, from $30,706 to $30,598, while the median price

rose 2.3 percent, from $22,000 to $22,500.
