Goffs November set to begin

Last updated: 11/16/08 6:48 PM

Goffs' week-long November Foal and Breeding Stock Sale gets underway Monday. This

year's

edition has added spice with the presence of the only foal by the ill-fated

George Washington

(Ire). Offered on behalf of breeder Stefano Luciani by the Irish National Stud

as Hip No.

1245, the February-foaled filly is a half-sister to the 2002 Prix Penelope

(Fr-G3) victress Ombre Legere (Ire)

(Double Bed [Fr]).

A 1,280-strong weanling catalog, just shy of last year's

bumper increase,

initiates the proceedings at the Kill venue. Five dedicated foal sessions will

be followed by two

days of broodmares and fillies, which is a reduction of one day from last year's

renewal.

The

sale has been promoted as a leading source of pinhooking success, and foal sale

graduates

have been notable on the track this year, with two-year-old Bushranger (Ire)

(Danetime)

garnering both the Prix Morny (Fr-G1) and the Middle Park S. (Eng-G1). Sophomores lending

their name

to the honor roll include Cheveley Park Stud bound Kingsgate Native (Mujadil), who added

to his win in last year's Nunthorpe S. (Eng-G1) with a victory in this year's Golden Jubliee S.

(Eng-G1);

and Paco Boy (Desert Style), who registered a career best in the

Prix de la Foret (Fr-G1)

last month.

Further interest in Goffs November will be generated when the first set of twin

foals ever

catalogued by the County Kildare auction house go under the hammer. Offered as Hips

486 and

487 by Drummond House Stables, the pair of Orpen colts are out of the winning

mare Fancied

(Dominion [GB]), and are half-brothers to three winners.

In addition to George

Washington's sole

representative, first-season sires with stock available include the Coolmore

quintet of Hurricane Run (Ire), Holy

Roman Emperor (Ire), Ad Valorem, Aussie Rules and Ivan Denisovich (Ire); Darley's Iffraaj

and Byron; and Ballyhane Stud's Majestic Missile and Diamond Green

(Fr).

"It has been proven at the 2008 yearling sales that

foals purchased at Goffs

November Foal Sale in 2007 achieved greater pinhooking profit than those bought

anywhere else," Goffs'

CEO Henry Beeby commented. "I would also

like to remind foal purchasers of the benefits of the Goffs/DBS loyalty scheme,

whereby no vendor

commission will be paid on any foal bought at this sale if it returns as a

yearling to either Goffs or DBS next

year.

"Once again, our vendors have really supported the sale, and we are

confident that buyers will be

impressed with the quality of foals catalogued. It is particularly exciting for

Goffs to be chosen as the auction house to sell the only George Washington foal

in the world."

Following in the wake of the foal marathon next Saturday and Sunday, this

season's

broodmares' and fillies' book has been reduced by a quarter from last year's

800-plus tome,

and that has resulted in the loss of a third session. As usual, there are

heavyweight drafts

from His Highness The Aga Khan's Studs and Moyglare Stud, and a 51-strong squad

catalogued by the Darley operation.
