Goffs officials thrilled with February numbers

Last updated: 2/17/07 7:30 PM

In the aftermath of a solid week's business at Goffs' Kill complex, the auction

house

expressed extreme satisfaction after recording significant advances across the

board. Turnover

for the five-day February sale surged 67 percent, from 7,194,250 to 12,028,100,

over last

year's four-day equivalent, while the average jumped 56 percent to 18,476.

"Trade

far

exceeded all our expectations," Managing Director Matt Mitchell commented. "There was plenty of competition for the nicer

yearlings, and it is

encouraging to see vendors already considering some for the Million Sale later

this year. The mare market was particularly

buoyant,

with strong demand from the domestic market, augmented by demand from

international

purchasers from all the major nations with Thoroughbred sectors."

The company

breaks new

ground when staging Europe's first all-weather breeze-up, at Kempton Park

on March 9,

which includes a special offering of two-year-olds eligible for both 1-million

bonus races at

The Curragh on September 19.
