Grand Slam II features Revved Up, Soldier's Dancer rematch

Last updated: 12/12/07 7:40 PM

Only a nose separated REVVED UP (Sultry Song) and SOLDIER'S DANCER (Lost

Soldier) in the Bonnie Heath Turf Cup H. on November 10, with the nine-year-old

Revved Up getting the better of his three-year-old rival, and these two classy

turf performers will renew their rivalry in Saturday's $200,000 W.L. McKnight H.

(G2). The 1 1/2-mile turf affair is one of four stakes on Calder's Grand Slam

II program.

An overflow of 16 were entered to McKnight, but only 12 will be allowed to

start. Revved Up, a $1.5 million earner under the care of Christophe Clement,

owns a 4-3-1-0 mark over the course, and the gray gelding will enter in top

form, having won two of his last three starts. He's also accomplished at 12

furlongs, winning four of nine starts at the distance. Kent Desormeaux, who

guided Revved Up to victory in the John's Call S. three starts back, will regain

the mount.

Soldier's Dancer has compiled four stakes victories so far, including wins in

the Calder Derby (G3), Tropical Park Derby (G3) and Arthur I. Appleton Juvenile

Turf S. over the course, and the David Vivian-trained gelding will keep Cornelio

Velasquez in the irons. His Bonnie Heath effort was very encouraging, but the

gray will have to stretch out to 1 1/2 miles for the first time on Saturday.

Barclay Tagg will send out DAVE (Ends Well), a four-time stakes victor who

earned his first graded score in the Red Smith H. (G2) last time out, and STREAM

OF GOLD (Ire) (Rainbow Quest) looms as a dangerous contender for Kiaran

McLaughlin. Runner-up in the Turf Classic Invitational (G1) two starts back, the

six-year-old gelding exits a respectable fourth versus better company in the

Canadian International (Can-G1). Stakes winner ROYAL CHALLENGER (Tough Gold),

runner-up by a neck in the Chief Bearhart S. most recently, will invade from

Woodbine for conditioner Brian Lynch.

Soldier's Dancer will lead the post parade under a 116-pound impost. Next

comes Royal Challenger, Javier Castellano, 117; CROWN POINT (Honor Grades), Rene

Douglas, 115; GOLDEN STRATEGY (Strategic Mission), Julio Garcia, 114;

DREADNAUGHT (Lac Ouimet), Edgar Prado, 116; Revved Up, 120; Dave, Joe Bravo,

116; PRESIOUS PASSION (Royal Anthem), Elvis Trujillo, 116; INTERPATATION

(Langfuhr), Eddie Nunez, 115; BEE CHARMER (Ire) (Anabaa), Jose Lezcano, 115;

Stream of Gold, Eddie Castro, 118; and KISS THE KID (Lemon Drop Kid), Mario Mino,

114. The also-eligibles are IMAWILDANDCRAZYGUY (Wild Event), Manoel Cruz, 113;

REHOBOTH (Wagon Limit), Prado, 112; BOB'S PROUD MOMENT (Proud and True),

Constantino Hernandez, 113; and DANCING FOREVER (Rahy), Rene Douglas, 112.

DALVINA (GB) (Grand Lodge) and GREEN GIRL (Fr) (Lord of Men), the respective

first- and fourth-place finishers in the Long Island H. (G3), will square off

once again in the $200,000 La Prevoyante H. (G2). A full field of 12 distaffers

will contest the 1 1/2-mile turf test, and only one entrant -- longshot

INDIANSONG (Indian Charlie) -- owns a win over the course.

Dalvina, a Group 2-placed runner in England and Ireland who finished fifth

behind Peeping Fawn (Danehill) in this year's Yorkshire Oaks (Eng-G1), made her

U.S. debut in the Long Island and drove to a 3 1/2-length tally. Previously

trained by Ed Dunlop, the sophomore miss will make her first start for Graham

Motion on Saturday. Velasquez rides. French stakes winner Green Girl finished

fifth when making her North American bow in the Canadian S. (Can-G2) three

starts ago and followed it with an unplaced effort versus males in the Turf

Classic. The Clement-trained mare will pick up the services of Desormeaux.

MY RACHEL (Horse Chestnut [SAf]), who finished third after showing early

speed in the Long Island, is also in the line-up, and stakes queen ERES MAGICA

(Chi) (Stuka) loves a route of ground, finishing second in the 1 1/2-mile

Dowager S. most recently. Canadian invader SANS SOUCI ISLAND (Chester House)

will also draw some support. Winner of the Carotene S. two starts back, the

sophomore filly exits a fast-finishing fifth in the E.P. Taylor S. (Can-G1).

Emma-Jayne Wilson will be in to ride the Roger Attfield pupil.

The complete cast, from the rail, is OH DEANNE O (Dynaformer), Castellano,

111; My Rachel, Prado, 115; Green Girl, 115; JIVE (Dynaformer), Eddie Nunez,

112; Dalvina, 117; REDASPEN (Bianconi), Castro, 115; Eres Magica, Lezcano, 116;

HERBORISTE (GB) (Hernando [Fr]), Cruz, 112; SUAVENESS (Suave Prospect), Raymundo

Fuentes, 112; I'M IN LOVE (Zafonic), Trujillo, 115; Sans Souci Island, 115; and

Indiansong, Nunez, 112.

The $100,000

Fred

W. Hooper H. (G3) and $100,000

Kenny

Noe Jr. H. (G3) will also be offered. The Fred Hooper will feature a field of

12 going 1 1/8 miles on the main track, and the seven-furlong Kenny Now drew 12

runners. Six-time stakes victor ELECTRIFY (Delaware Township), winner of the

Carl G. Rose Classic H. last out at Calder, is the top draw in the Fred Hooper.

Pegasus S. (G3) hero ACTIN GOOD (Yes It's True) and Carl Rose runner-up

Imawildandcrazyguy, who is cross-entered to the McKnight, are also in the field.

PARADISE DANCER (Langfuhr), FINALLYMADEIT (Concerto) and SANTANA STRINGS

(Wheaton) are top contenders in the Kenny Noe.
