Greater Good too good for Southwest

Lewis Lakin's GREATER GOOD (Intidab) hopped at the start of the $100,000

Southwest S. on Saturday at Oaklawn Park, but recouped while racing in last

under jockey John McKee. After trailing through the first half, which

Munificence (Allen's Prospect) set in :23 2/5, :47 1/5 and 1:12 3/5, Greater

Good started moving up along the outside, swinging five wide on the final turn

and overpowering the long-time leader right before the wire, finishing three

parts of a length in front. Sent off the 1-2 favorite in the seven-horse field,

the Bob Holthus-trained sophomore completed a mile in 1:39 over the wet fast

track, paying

out $3, $2.40 and $2.20.

Munificence easily held second by 1 1/2 lengths, returning $3.20 and $2.20 at

7-2 and ending the $10.40 exacta. Humor at Last (Distorted Humor) came in third

to finish the $29.20 trifecta and was worth $2.20 at 5-1. Copy My Notes

(Souvenir Copy) rounded out the top four and was followed by Major League (Magic

Cat), Silver Haze (Silver Deputy) and My Parade (Parade Ground).

Greater Good captured the Kentucky Jockey Club S. (G2) and Kentucky Cup

Juvenile S. (G3) last year with a third in the Iroquois S. (G3) thrown in the

mix. From a 6-4-0-1 lifetime mark, the bay colt has now earned $286,275. Out of

the Grade 3-winning Gather the Clan (Ire) (General Assembly), Greater Good has

an unnamed yearling half-sister by Victory Gallop.
