Groupie Doll remains in training with Bradley, targeting

Cigar Mile

Groupie Doll's inclusion in the Cigar Mile turns the already stellar race into a dynamite event

Whisper Hill Farm's newly-acquired reigning champion female sprinter Groupie

Doll is now being pointed for the Grade 1 Cigar Mile against the boys to be run November

30 at Aqueduct.

"When I purchased Groupie Doll, my sole intention was for her to be

retired and become a mom," said Mandy Pope, who made the successful $3.1 million

bid for the chestnut daughter of Bowman's Band at Keeneland on Wednesday.

"However, after spending time with

her and speaking with her pervious connections, I felt that she may still want

to run a few more races," Pope continued. "I asked Dr. Larry Bramlage to go over

her from her nose to her tail and he felt there was no reason for her career to

end now.

"Everyone who has been around Groupie Doll says she is rounding into the

best form of her career and I feel the racing public deserves to see super stars

run so long as they are happy and 100 percent sound."

The five-year-old mare has arrived in New York and is resting comfortably after her very

eventful past couple of weeks, which include not only her trip through the sales

ring but a repeat victory in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint at Santa

Anita on November 2.

Groupie Doll just missed by a nose in last year's Cigar Mile, which followed

her 4 1/2-length score in the Filly & Mare Sprint.

"To insure that Groupie Doll continues to receive the exact same care and

attention to which she is accustomed, I have made the decision that Buff Bradley

and his team will oversee the remainder of her racing career," Pope added. "It

is only right that he continue as her trainer and I am delighted and honored

that Buff has agreed to share this exciting time with me."

Bradley and his father, Fred Bradley, bred Groupie Doll and were part of the

ownership group who campaigned and just sold the mare. The other two members

were Carl Hurst and Brent Burns.

Groupie Doll has thus far compiled a 21-11-4-4 career mark and has banked

$2,478,850 in lifetime earnings.
