Harmonious exits QEII victory well; Cassidy weighing options for Evening

Jewel

Trainer John Shirreffs made a brief stop by the Keeneland stakes barn Sunday

morning to look in on HARMONIOUS (Dynaformer), runaway winner of Saturday's

Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup (G1).

"She's great this morning," Shirreffs said from the Cincinnati/Northern

Kentucky International Airport. "She will stay until Thursday when the plane is

scheduled to bring her back (to California)."

Harmonious won by 4 1/4 lengths over Zagora (Fr) (Green Tune), scoring the

second-largest margin of victory in the 27 runnings of the race. The margin was

exceeded only by the 4 1/2 lengths that Hot Cha Cha (Cactus Ridge) won by in

2009.

The victory was the first for Shirreffs at Keeneland and the first stakes

victory for jockey Joel Rosario and owners Marty, Emily and Pam Wygod at the

Lexington, Kentucky, venue.

Shirreffs said that no decision had been made concerning the three-year-old

filly's next start.

Trainer James Cassidy was heading back to California on Sunday morning after

watching EVENING JEWEL (Northern Afleet) run third in the QEII.

"The filly looked good this morning," Cassidy said after a quick trip to

Keeneland.

Plans for Evening Jewel, who suffered her first loss in four grass starts on

Saturday, were still to be determined.

"We (owner Marilyn Braly of the Braly Family Trust) are going to have a

discussion on that on the way home. I should have an answer tomorrow," said

Cassidy, whose options for the filly include staying in Kentucky for the

Breeders' Cup Ladies' Classic (G1) or the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (G1)

to be run November 5 at Churchill Downs. "I've got a lot of homework to do."

Trainer Graham Motion said Garden City S. (G1) victress CHECK THE LABEL

(Stormin Fever), whose four-race win streak ended when she ran sixth in the QE

II, was fine on Sunday morning.

"She's had a long year, maybe it caught up with her," Motion mused. "The race

was won by a fresh filly. We'll give (Check the Label) a break, and you'll

probably see her here next year."

Lake George S. (G2) heroine PERFECT SHIRL (Perfect Soul [Ire]), who finished

eighth and last in the QE II, came out of the race in good order according to

Sue Lorimer, assistant to trainer Roger Attfield. The  filly left Sunday

morning to return to her home base at Woodbine.
