GRADED STAKES PREVIEWS

Fresh off a much needed win following three straight runner-up finishes,

and back on one of her favorite surfaces, TOUGH TIZ'S SIS (Tiznow) is our selection in Hollywood Park's Sunday feature, the $100,000 Hawthorne H. (G3) for

fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles.

The Bob Baffert trainee had a fine three-year-old campaign last season,

winning the Hollywood Oaks (G2) and Lady's Secret S. (G1), the latter over

eventual Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) runner-up Hystericalady (Distorted Humor).

Though only seventh herself in the Breeders' Cup Distaff, Tough Tiz's Sis

rebounded to finish second in her next three starts, including the El Encino S.

(G2) against the undefeated Zenyatta (Street Cry [Ire]).

In need of a confidence boost, Tough Tiz's Sis traveled to New Mexico for the

Harry W. Henson H. at Sunland Park on March 16, and while it wasn't an easy

victory, the bay lass exerted her class with a three-wide rally turning for home

and prevailed by three-quarters of a length. Tough Tiz's Sis should be well-placed in the early going of the Hawthorne and will have a target to aim at in

DAWN AFTER DAWN (Successful Appeal).

Dawn After Dawn, wire-to-wire winner of the La Canada S. (G2)  three

back, was 4 1/2 lengths second to Nashoba's Key (Silver Hawk) after setting the

pace in the Santa Margarita Invitational H. (G1) in her next start, but broke behind the field in

the Madison S. (G2) last out. That slow start did not prevent her from

making a bid for the lead in the stretch, but she had little left to withstand

the challenge of Ventura (Chester House), and Dawn After Dawn wound up three

lengths behind that rival in third. With only longshot FLEETHEART (Northern

Afleet) a possibility to exert pressure, Dawn After Dawn could luck into a winning trip on the front end.

GLORIFIED (Honour and Glory) will make her two-turn debut in the Hawthorne.

After winning her first two starts last summer at Hollywood, Glorified has

fallen short in four consecutive stakes, most recently finishing a neck second

in the six-furlong Las Flores H. (G3) behind Tiz Elemental (Cee's Tizzy). There

is little in Glorified's pedigree to suggest the additional ground will be much

of a hindrance.

Lightly raced SANTA TERESITA (Lemon Drop Kid) brings a three-race winning

streak into the Hawthorne, most recently scoring in the restricted Santa Lucia

H. at Santa Anita. The David Hofmans trainee obviously has upside with only six

starts behind her, and she could make a viable rally provided the pace is

honest.

A maiden winner at Hollywood last summer, RIVOLTELLA (Broken Vow) later

notched two stakes scores in the slop, including the Washington Oaks, but in general

she seems a cut below the top contenders on class. Along with Fleetheart, it would be a major surprise to see STORMIN MON

(Maria's Mon), an allowance class mare, in the winner's circle following the

Hawthorne.
