Heat wave causes track cancellations
Belmont Park canceled their live racing program for Wednesday due to the
heat wave that has gripped the East Coast this week. Temperatures have soared
into the mid- and upper-90s, and the heat index has surged past 100 degrees
throughout the region.
On Tuesday, heat was blamed for the cancellation of racing at Philadelphia
Park while Delaware Park abandoned its program after running two races. Delaware
Park joined Belmont in canceling its Wednesday program, while Philadelphia
Park was scheduled to be dark.
All three tracks remain open for simulcasting. Racing is scheduled to resume
at Belmont on Thursday, Philadelphia Park on Friday, and Delaware Park on
Saturday.
News of further cancellations will be added as it becomes available.
