Last updated: 2/26/07 7:15 PM

A filly by Hold That Tiger brought a high bid of A$78,000 to top Monday's

opening session of the Magic Million Tasmanian Select Yearling Sale at the Iveresk Showgrounds in Launceston, Tasmania.

Consigned by Camoquhill Stud as Lot No. 70, the youngster was purchased by Tasmania's Aceland Stud. Out

of the winning mare Framed (Tate Gallery) and from the first Southern Hemisphere crop of

European champion Hold That Tiger, the September 10 foal is a half

brother to the multiple Group 1-placed Meridian Star, an earner of more than HK$15-million.

Among the buyers present at Monday's opening session were Gai Waterhouse,

Star Thoroughbreds, Prime Thoroughbreds, John Ledger, Terry O'Sullivan, Ken

Keys, Romi Karam, David Bourne, Ken Sweeney and Richard Jolly.

"We had a great buying bench on hand," Magic Millions Managing Director

David Chester said. "A number from the mainland and they were impressed by the

quality of the yearlings."

A total of 110 lots drew A$1,707,000, up from A$1,523,500 for 111 head one

year ago, as did the average that rose from A$13,725 in 2006 to A$15,518 this

term.

The two-day sale concludes Thursday.
