An intriguing field of seven sophomore fillies will head to post in hopes of
bagging the top prize in the grassy $175,000 Honeymoon Breeders' Cup H. (G2) on
Sunday. FOXYSOX (GB) (Foxhound) has done next to nothing wrong since coming to
the United States, reeling off four consecutive triumphs, and we'll make her our top
choice in here. Trained by Carla Gaines, the chestnut lass has never raced past
one mile, but we don't envision the extra furlong being an obstacle in here. The
three-year-old is coming off a facile tally in the Senorita S. (G3) and a repeat
of that should make her tough to upend. Alex Bisono will retain the mount.
ATTIMA (GB) (Zafonic) made a splash in her U.S. bow most recently, strolling
home an easy 3 1/2-length allowance victress. The Julio Canani charge showed
some class in Europe, evidenced by her placing in the Prix la Rochette (Fr-G3),
and appears to have a very high ceiling. The bay will be stepping up the class
ladder in here compared to her latest, but we wouldn't be surprised at all if
she has her picture taken following this affair. Victor Espinoza will pilot.
GALILEO'S STAR (Ire) (Galileo [Ire]) ships in to the United States for her
three-year-old debut, and the James Cassidy charge is surely a threat based on
her juvenile form. The chestnut filly has been stateside since the beginning of
the spring and should be well acclimated to the Southern California weather. The
well-bred sort was stakes placed last year and has worked well in advance of
this. David Flores will guide the miss.
HARRIETT LANE (Giant's Causeway) had her three-race win streak snapped when a
good second in the Providencia S. (G3) most recently, and has been freshened for
this test. Trained by Ted West, the filly really turned the corner when
switching to the green but appears to be more of a sprinter/miler type, thus
hurting her chances for the top prize. We recommend using the chestnut on the
bottom of exotic wagers.
ARLENE (Game Plan) had the lead in the stretch of the Senorita S,. but could
not keep up with our top choice in the latter stages of that one for conditioner
Donald Chatlos. We like the consistency of the young lass and feel she could
have a bright future, but it's hard for us to endorse her for the top spot in
here. Mark the three-year-old as a live exotics player at a square price.
We also feel that PROXENIA (GB) (Pursuit of Love) has a big shot at hitting
the board, but she'll need some pace help up front to set up her strong late
run. The filly concerns us from a win standpoint due to her knack of settling
for minor awards (12-1-7-2), but she's not a total throw-out by any means. The
presence of Alex Solis only adds to the intrigue. ROYAL CHEER (Royal Anthem) has thrived since switching to the barn of Peter
Miller, but appears to be in a bit tough with this group. The bay was a nice
second in the Montclair S. upstate in her latest venture, and a repeat of that
could put her in the mix for a paycheck. Martin Pedroza will steer the Kentucky-bred.
