Hook and Ladder colt brings $260,000

Hip No. 444, a colt by freshman sire Hook and Ladder, sold for the top price

of $260,000 to James Ventura, agent, at Wednesday's second session of the Ocala

Breeders' Sales Company's Spring Sale of Two-Year-Olds in Training. Consigned by

Ricky Leppala, agent, the dark bay New York-bred is out of Expensive Tap

(Pleasant Tap), a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Costly Shoes (Topsider) and

stakes winner Cherokee Dazzler (Cherokee Colony).

The session topper breezed a quarter-mile in :22 at the April 19 under tack

show. The colt hails from the same female family as champion Dehere (Deputy

Minister) and multiple Grade 2 winner Diabolo (Damascus).

Two fillies and a colt tied for the second-highest price at $180,000.

Hip 373, a filly by Deputy Commander, was purchased by Team Block from the

consignment of Shadybrook Farm (Michael Yates), agent. The Kentucky-bred is out

of Diamond Emblem (Our Emblem), a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Ecton Park

(Forty Niner), Japanese Group 3 victor Pit Fighter (Pulpit) and stakes winner Daring Heart

(Sunday Silence).

At the under tack show, the dark bay lass worked three furlongs in a bullet

:33 4/5.

Hip 521, MS. MARGARET (Military), was purchased by Equine Analysis Systems,

agent, from the consignment of Hoppel's Horse and Cattle, agent. The

Kentucky-bred is out of Gigi Gear (Golden Gear) and is from the same female

family as leading sire Distorted Humor (Forty Niner).

At the under tack show, Ms. Margaret worked one furlong in :10 2/5.

Equine Analysis Systems, agent, also paid $180,000 for Hip 415, DYNAMITE

DIXIE (Dixieland Band). The bay colt, who worked one furlong in :10 3/5, is out

of stakes-placed Dynamic Lady (Dynaformer). The Kentucky-bred, from the same

family as Grade 3 winners Adhocracy (Spend a Buck) and Classic Par (Sky

Classic), was consigned by Crupi's New Castle Farm.

On Wednesday, 210 horses sold for $5,751,700, a 19.2 percent decrease

compared to the same session last year when 205 horses sold for $7,116,800. The

average price dropped 21.1 percent, from $34,716 to $27,389. The median price

was unchanged at $19,000. The buyback percentage was 24 percent compared with 17

percent a year ago.
