Last updated: 7/4/07 7:09 PM

Pam and Martin Wygod's homebred IDIOT PROOF (Benchmark) prompted the early

pace, took the lead around the turn, then steamed home to win Wednesday's

$150,000

Jersey Shore Breeders' Cup S. (G3)

by 7 1/4 lengths at Monmouth Park.

In the process, the three-year-old colt shattered the track record, running six

furlongs on a fast track in 1:07 2/5 off opening fractions of :21 2/5, :43 1/5

and :55. Idiot Proof earned his first black-type victory for trainer Cliff Sise

Jr. and jockey Rajiv Maragh, and paid $10.60, $4.60 and $2.80 as the 4-1 third choice.

Spin Master (Distorted Humor) finished determinedly for second, 1 3/4 lengths

in front of Principle Secret (Sea of Secrets), and returned $3.20 and $2.80.

Principle Secret, the slight 3-2 favorite, raced in a pocket along the inside

and closed well for third, paying $2.60. The exacta returned $33.40 and the trifecta was worth $63. Southwestern Heat (Gone West), the early pacesetter,

held on for fourth and completed the $498 superfecta (5-7-1-4). Sir Five Star (Five Star

Day) and Cherokee Country (Yonaguska) finished in a dead-heat for fifth. West

Coast Flier (West Acre) was last under the line.

Making just his second career start in his seasonal debut, Idiot Proof finished a close

runner-up in the Sunshine

Millions Dash S. at Gulfstream Park. The bay colt has earned $237,272 from a

record of 6-4-2-1.

The California-bred Idiot Proof is the first registered foal out of the winning

Bertrando mare Perfectly Pretty. He has a two-year-old full brother, High

Intellect, and two younger full sisters.
