Include Me Out seeks to rebound in Clement L. Hirsch

Last updated: 8/1/12 4:59 PM

After establishing herself as Southern California's leading older filly over

the winter and spring, Include Me Out endured a temporary setback when upset by

Love Theway Youare in the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap on June 16. The daughter of

Include can put that performance behind her with an effective showing Saturday

in the Grade 1, $300,000

Clement L. Hirsch at Del Mar.

The Hirsch, at 1 1/16 miles on Polytrack, has attracted a field of eight

fillies and mares, with Include Me Out set to break from post 1 under Joe Talamo.

Following comfortable wins in the Grade 2 La Canada and Grade 1 Santa

Margarita to kick off her four-year-old campaign, Include Me Out had to work a

bit harder to notch the Grade 2 Marjorie L. Everett Handicap by three parts of a

length at Hollywood Park on May 19. In her next start, the nine-furlong Vanity,

Include Me Out built up a three-length with a furlong to go and looked home

free. It was then the filly began to pull herself up, according to Talamo, and

she was caught and passed easily by Love Theway Youare, who drew off to win by 2

1/2 lengths.

A maiden winner over the Polytrack last August, Include Me Out will not have

to deal with that rival in the Clement Hirsch. However, she will face multiple

Grade 1 winner Switch, who was third as the 3-5 favorite in last year's edition.

The two-time Breeders' Cup runner-up recently got back on the winning track in

the Grade 2 A Gleam Handicap at Hollywood, her first victory in nearly 18

months, but has not won around two turns since taking the one-mile Torrey Pines

at Del Mar in 2010.

Hall of Famer Neil Drysdale will saddle the Chilean filly Amani for her U.S.

debut. A multiple Group 1 winner on dirt in her native land, Amani has won 10 of

11 starts with one second. Her average margin of victory in her last six wins

has been more than 11 lengths, with her most impressive tour de force being a

25-length romp in a Group 1 last November.

Star Billing, who upset the Grade 1 Matriarch on turf last November, makes

just her second start of the year in the Clement Hirsch. She returned to action

in the June 10 Redondo Beach at Hollywood, but performed poorly when trailing

the field of eight as the 8-5 favorite.

Great Hot, who captured the Torrey Pines and Grade 2 Raven Run last fall,

finished second to Include Me Out in the La Canada but has struggled in three

subsequent outings. Quaintly moves to the main track after placing in the Grade

3 Sunset Handicap and Grade 3 Beverly Hills Handicap on turf in her last two.

English import Zafeen's Pearl exits a first-level allowance win on the

Polytrack, while the Eoin Harty-trained Kayce Ace looks up against it on paper.
