Last updated: 9/16/08 8:01 PM

An offspring of Indian Charlie commanded the highest bid for a second

consecutive session at Keeneland's September Yearling Sale on Tuesday. Leading

the eighth session of the 15-day sale was a bay filly cataloged as Hip No. 2825,

which was sold to John Brocklebank, agent, for $250,000. The filly was part of

the consignment of Mill Ridge, agent.

The yearling is the fifth registered foal out of the multiple Grade 2-placed

stakes winner Her She Kisses (Dehere), herself a half-sister to the multiple

Grade 3 winner and millionaire Crafty Shaw (Crafty Prospector). The filly's second dam, the

Grade 1-placed Her She Shawklit (Air Forbes Won), is a half-sister to Grade 3

winner Mr. Shawklit (Afleet), stakes winner Shawklit Man (Woodman) and Grade

1-placed Shawklit Won (Air Forbes Won). This family also produced Grade 2 queen

Shawklit Mint (Air Forbes Won).

Ken and Sarah Ramsey, the 2004 Eclipse Award-winning owners, went to $230,000

to secure a dark bay filly by classic winner Empire Maker. Cataloged as Hip

2729, she was consigned by The Acorn, agent for White Oaks (Mr. and Mrs. Samuel

H. Rogers Jr.). The Florida-bred filly is the first registered foal out of the

Grade 3-winning Changing World (Spinning World), a half-sister to the multiple

stakes-placed Our Exploit (Exploit). The yearling's second dam, Grade 3 queen

Reach the Top (Cozzene), is a full sister to the multiple Grade 3 winner Grab

the Green.

Hip No 2557, a dark bay son of Grand Slam consigned by Elm Tree Farm (Mr. and

Mrs. Jody Huckabay), agent, was the session's highest selling colt. The

Kentucky-bred was purchased by Off the Hook for $180,000. He is the third

registered foal out of the winning Dixieland Band mare Restless One, a

half-sister to the Grade 3-winning, $1.16 million earner Chorwon (Cozzene); multiple

stakes winner Yukon Robbery (Yukon); and stakes winner Kumhwa (His Majesty).

This is the same female family as Grade 2 winner Classic Elegance (Carson City)

and the Grade 3 winners Basket Weave (Best Turn) and Rush Bay (Cozzene). Classic

Elegance's half-brother, a colt by A.P. Indy, was the highest priced yearling at

this sale's second session last Tuesday, fetching a final bid of $1.5 million.

On Tuesday, 270 yearlings were sold for $14,116,400, a decline of 11.6

percent from the $15,969,400 realized from the sale of 286 head sold at the

comparable session last year. The average decreased 6.4 percent, from $55,837

to $52,283, but the median held steady at $40,000.

After eight sessions, 1,967 horses have sold for $295,453,300 for an average

of $150,205 and a median of $95,000. Those represent declines of 13.1 percent in

gross, 12.4 percent in average, and 5 percent in median. At this point last

year, 1,983 head had been sold for $340,060,600 for an average of $171,488 and a
