Last updated: 5/19/08 7:59 PM

The William Inglis Great Southern Sale came to a close in Melbourne Monday,

with a Secret Savings (Aus) mare from the family of Easy Date topping the final

session at A$100,000. Victorian buyer Peter Butterss signed for the mare Raising

High, a daughter of Wide Horizon (Durham Ranger), who is in turn a half-sister

to Easy Date, whose Group 1-winning descendants include Snippets, Forensics

(Flying Spur) and Rewaaya (Spinspiel [Ire]). Raising High was sold in foal to

Coolmore's Fastnet Rock.

In total, 410 horses sold during the broodmare and mixed bloodstock section

of the sale for A$3.156 million. The average was A$7,700 and the RNA rate was

21.2 percent.

The William Inglis sales series now heads to Scone for the annual

HTBA Scone Yearling Sale, to be held Thursday, with a catalog of 203

horses.

Meanwhile, Inglis announced that it had attracted more than 600

entries for its inaugural Australian Weanling & Breeding Stock Sale. The AWBS

sale will be held at Newmarket in Sydney on June 26, 27 and 29.

More than 400

weanlings have been nominated, including a strong showing of more than 100 by

first-season sires, which will make up the New Sire Showcase. In all, 20

different freshman sires will be represented.

The broodmare section attracted over 200 nominations, highlighted by

a Tyreel Stud reduction of 11 mares which includes group winners Bonanova (Star

Way), Asia (Danehill), Moon Dragon (Danehill), Milanova (Danehill), Valourina

(Snippets), Joie (Geiger Counter), and Sydney's Dream (Bletchingly), the dam of

Group 1 winner Charge Forward. The mares will be sold on June 29.

"There has been an enormous response to this sale, and buyers will be

suitably impressed with the quality that is cataloged over the three days,"

William Inglis Director Jonathan D'Arcy said.
