Injury halts comeback, career of Wise Dan
Wise Dan (Wiseman's Ferry), voted Horse of the Year in 2012 and 2013, was
retired Monday after the eight-year-old was discovered to have a tendon tear.
The injury ends a comeback by the gelding, who was expected to seek a third
victory in next Sunday's Woodbine Mile (G1).
A homebred owned by Mort Fink and trained by Charlie LoPresti, Wise Dan won
divisional titles as champion older male and champion turf male in both Horse of
the Year seasons. He was a 20-time stakes winner overall, and among the seven he
won more than once were the 2012-13 editions of the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1).
Wise Dan, who retires with a mark of 31-23-2-0, $7,552,920, is expected to
reside at LoPresti's farm in Kentucky.
