Straight Line runs away with Iroquois

Nancy A. Vanier & Cartwright Thoroughbred's STRAIGHT LINE

(Boundary) moved to the lead on the far turn and dominated

through the stretch of Saturday's $109,600 Iroquois S. (G3) at

Churchill Downs, taking a straight path to the finish line under

jockey Brice Blanc to win by five lengths.

Trained by Harvey Vanier, the dark bay two-year-old completed

the one-turn mile in 1:36 3/5 over the fast track. Can't Trick

Jake (Mazel Trick) set a legitimate pace of :22 3/5 and :45 3/5

before giving way, and Straight Line set the final splits of 1:10

4/5 and 1:23 3/5 while drawing away. Favored at 2-1, the winner

returned $6.40, $3.80 and $3.

Social Probation (Jules) saved ground on the inside early and

swung wide into the stretch to finish up for second, two lengths

better than 2-1 second choice Greater Good (Intidab). The

runner-up was off at 5-1 and paid $5.40 and $3.40. Show gave back

$2.40. The exotics totaled $26.40 (exacta), $53.40 (trifecta) and

$210.80 for the $1 superfecta (2-1-5-6).

Chief Commander (Deputy Commander), Highgrove (Forestry),

Can't Trick Jane and Norainonthisparty (Party Manners) brought up

the remainder of the field.

Bred in Kentucky by R. Alex Rankin & Louis Wright,

Straight Line was purchased for only $15,000 at last year's

Keeneland September sale. The colt is out of the winning Zanti

(Strawberry Road [Aus]), who is also the dam of an unnamed

yearling colt by Broken Vow.

Winner of the Honest Pleasure S. and second in the

Arlington-Washington Futurity (G3), Straight Line now owns a

6-3-1-0 record with $166,312 in earnings. He could return later

in the meet for the Kentucky Jockey Club S. (G2) on November 27.
