Grade 1 heroine ISLAND SAND (Tabasco Cat) sold for the top price of $4.2

million at Tuesday's second session of the Keeneland November Breeding Stock

Sale in Lexington, Kentucky. Kern Lillingston Association, agent, purchased the

six-year-old mare from the consignment of Maynard Farm, agent for B.A. Man Inc.

(James Osborne).

Island Sand produced a colt by A.P. Indy earlier this year and is back in

foal to A.P. Indy on a February 12 cover. She was cataloged as Hip No. 457.

As a three-year-old, Island Sand won the Acorn S. (G1) and Busanda S.,

finished second in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) and Fantasy S. (G2), and third in the

Mother Goose S. (G1). The following year, she captured the Delaware H. (G2) and

placed in three other black-type events. The dark bay earned $1,182,777 from a

record of 19-5-5-2.

Island Sand is a half-sister to Pozo de Luna (Famous Again), the 2006

champion two-year-old colt in Mexico. She is out of the unraced Forty Niner mare

Sue's Last Dance, a half-sister to 2004 Queen's Plate winner Niigon (Unbridled).

Her second dam is stakes-placed Savethelastdance (Nureyev).

Demi O'Byrne, who represents Coolmore, paid $3.1 million for 2003 Breeders'

Cup Distaff (G1) queen ADORATION (Honor Grades), who is in foal to Smart Strike

on a March 3 cover. Consigned by Mill Ridge Sales, agent, the eight-year-old

mare has a yearling colt by Empire Maker and a weanling filly by Ghostzapper.

She went through the sales ring as Hip 339.

Besides the Breeders' Cup Distaff, Adoration won the Santa Margarita

Invitational H. (G1), Fleur de Lis H. (G2), Hollywood Oaks (G2), and three other

black-type events. She finished second in the Vanity H. (G1) and Bayakoa H. (G2)

and third Lady's Secret H. (G2). Adoration earned $2,051,159 from a record of

20-8-3-1.

Adoration is a half-sister to Grade 3-placed Mo Mon (Maria's Mon). She is out

of the unraced Key to the Mint mare Sewing Lady, a half-sister to Irish stakes

winner Astraeus (Star de Naskra). Her second dam is English stakes-placed Hunt

the Thimble (Turn and Count).

Hip 472, LEMONS FOREVER (Lemon Drop Kid), sold for $2.5 million to R.J.

Bennett, agent for Charles Fipke. Consigned as a broodmare prospect by Eaton

Sales, agent, the chestnut won last year's Kentucky Oaks (G1) and finished third

in the Alabama S. (G1) and Bourbonette S. (G3). The four-year-old earned

$648,940 from a record of 16-4-1-2.

Fipke said Lemons Forever will be sent to Canadian champion and Grade 1

winner Perfect Soul (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), who he bred and campaigned.

"The Sadler's Wells -- Kingmambo (grandsire of Lemons Forever) cross is

probably the best nick in the world," Fipke said. "There's a lot of speed in her

pedigree, so she'll be perfect for Perfect Soul. She's flawless; perfectly

correct and very well balanced."

Lemons Forever is out of multiple Group 2 winner and Grade 1-placed Critikola

(Arg) (Tough Critic) and from the same female family as Chilean champion Frau

Heidi (Arg) (Frari).

A colt by Kingmambo was the highest-price weanling, fetching $950,000 from

John Ferguson, who represents Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed.

Consigned by Eaton Sales, agent, the dark bay colt is the second foal out of

Because (Ire) (Sadler's Wells), a full sister to Irish highweight, Group 1

winner, and classic-placed Quarter Moon (Ire). Because is also a full sister to

2003 Irish One Thousand Guineas (Ire-G1) heroine Yesterday (Ire) and All My

Loving (Ire), who finished third in this year's Epsom Oaks (G1) and Irish Oaks

(G1).

The Kentucky-bred colt was cataloged as Hip 363.

On Tuesday, 186 horses sold for $69,435,000, an increase of 5.4 percent

compared to the same session a year ago when 178 horses sold for $65,880,000.

The average price rose 0.9 percent, from $370,112 to $373,306. The median price

fell 12 percent, from $250,000 to $220,000.

A total of 380 horses in Book 1 were sold for $178,499,000, which represents

a 19.3 percent increase compared to the first two sessions last year when 342

horses changed hands for $149,675,000. The average price is up 7.3 percent, from

$437,646 to $469,734. The median price, however, is down 9.1 percent, from

$275,000 to $250,000.

The sale continues Wednesday at 10 a.m. (EST). For complete results, visit keeneland.com.
