A highly emotional Jimmy Jerkens witnessed Classic Point (Flatter) fend off a

late charge from longshot You Bought Her (Graeme Hall) to take Saturday's

$200,000

Inside Information (G2) at Gulfstream Park.

The victory came days after the death of the trainer's father, Hall of Fame

conditioner Allen Jerkens, who had trained Joseph Shields' homebred mare until

last summer.

"Obviously, the circumstances made it a little special," Jerkens said. "When

she first came down here she didn't do so well. She lost all her hair. My father

said she did it to him last year around this time. That's why she hadn't run

until today, when she finally came around. She's a very good workhorse. She'll

very willing. She'll do anything you want. She's an absolute dreamboat to

train."

Longshot Best Behavior (Into Mischief) and 1-2 favorite Merry Meadow (Henny

Hughes) dueled through an opening quarter of :22, with second choice Sweet

Whiskey (Old Fashioned) splitting that pair into the far turn. Meanwhile,

Classic Point was rating 1 1/2 lengths behind that trio.

Sweet Whiskey put away both Merry Meadow and Best Behavior as she reached the

half in :44 3/5, with Classic Point now coming on. Inside the final furlong,

Classic Point edged clear of Sweet Whiskey and just held off a late surge from

You Bought Her to win by a neck in a time of 1:24 2/5 for seven furlongs on a

fast track.

Ridden by Paco Lopez, Classic Point paid $10.80 at odds of 4-1.

You Bought Her finished second, a half-length ahead of Sweet Whiskey.

Centrique (Malibu Moon), Best Behavior, and Merry Meadow rounded out the order

of finish. Quiet Hour (Quiet American) was scratched.

This was the third consecutive stakes win for Classic Point, who had

previously taken the $98,000 Punkin Pie at Belmont Park on October 13 and the Go

for Wand H. (G3) at Aqueduct by a nose on November 28. In 2013, under the

tutelage of Allen Jerkens, the chestnut had placed in the Punkin Pie and

Honorable Miss H. (G2). Her record now stands at 31-8-4-1, $670,794.

The Florida-bred Classic Point was reared by Discerning (Langfuhr), a

half-sister to multiple Grade 2 winner Any Limit (Limit Out). The mare's third

dam was Grade 1 winner Personal Business (Private Account), whose offspring

included Grade 3 winner In Conference (Dayjur).
