Katiyra eyes Irish Oaks

His Highness the Aga Khan's KATIYRA (Peintre Celebre), third in the June 6

Epsom Oaks (Eng-G1) to Look Here (Hernando [Fr]), will bypass the June 28 Pretty

Polly S. (Ire-G1) at The Curragh and instead point straight to the July 13 Irish

Oaks (Ire-G1) at the County Kildare venue, trainer John Oxx revealed Thursday.

"She'll next run in the Irish Oaks," the trainer told Setanta Sports. "We

were thinking about the Pretty Polly at the (Irish) Derby (Ire-G1) meeting, but

I think we'll wait now. She's not a filly we are going to be too hard on this

year. She has a potential four-year-old career as well, so I think we'll freshen

her up now and wait for the classic. It's the most obvious race, especially with

Look Here likely to give it a miss. If she isn't going, there is even more

reason for us to go."

Oxx reflected on the bay homebred's third-place effort in the Epsom classic,

in which she stumbled at Tattenham Corner.

"Obviously she is very inexperienced and it was asking a lot for her to

handle the track, but she just got stopped by a horse falling back, and she lost

her hind legs going across the path, so there were excuses. She didn't come down

the hill too well, but I think that was more due to interference rather than not

handling the track. She seemed to be traveling well up to that point, but she

recovered and we were very happy with her final position."
