Last updated: 12/13/05 2:12 PM

This year, Keeneland will donate more than $1 million to more than 90

charitable organizations in Central Kentucky.

The primary categories of funding for Keeneland's contributions program are

health and human services, research, higher education, arts and culture, animal

welfare and historic preservation.

Midway Home Place, a first-time recipient, received $50,000 for the

construction of a new 23-bed nursing home facility to be located in Midway,

Kentucky. The Central Kentucky Blood Center received $20,000 -- the first

installment of a three-year, $60,000 commitment to help build a new facility.

The Kentucky Historical Society received the final $50,000 installment of its

five-year, $250,000 commitment that was used to build the Keeneland Changing

Exhibits Gallery.

In the education category, Midway College received the first $50,000

installment of a $150,000 pledge to assist in the expansion of its equine

studies program. The University of Kentucky was the recipient of multiple

grants, including $75,000 in unrestricted funds and $50,000 for an endowed chair

that will advance research and education regarding addiction.

Keeneland's charitable grants program is supported primarily by profits

generated by Thoroughbred sales, racing and simulcasting.
