Keeneland sales surpasses 2014 gross on penultimate day

A colt from the first crop of The Factor brought $170,000 to headline a

robust day of selling on Friday at Keeneland's September Yearling Sale.

Gross receipts of $279,977,300 posted through 11 sessions of this year's

12-day sale surpassed total sales of $279,960,500 recorded for the entire 13-day

September Sale in 2014.

Cumulatively, Keeneland has sold 2,575 horses for $279,977,300 compared to

last year's 12-day total of $278,047,200 for 2,641 yearlings. The average of

$108,729 rose 3.3 percent over $105,281 in 2014. The median increased 9.6

percent, from $52,000 to $57,000.

On Friday, Keeneland sold 216 yearlings for $3,017,000, up 14.9 percent from

the corresponding session in 2014 when 199 horses grossed $2,625,700. The

average of $13,968 increased 5.9 percent from last year's $13,194, while the

median of $9,000 was 12.5 percent higher than $8,000 in 2014.
