Kentucky-based stallions to help Australian breeders

dealing with EI

In an effort to assist Australian breeders whose plans have been scuttled by

the equine influenza (EI) crisis, William Inglis & Son have secured Southern

Hemisphere-time seasons to Kentucky-based stallions at discounted stud fees. A

list of

maiden and empty broodmares available for purchase will also be announced.

Among

the

stallions are Three Chimneys residents Dynaformer, Exchange Rate, Flower Alley,

Good

Reward, Medallist, Point Given, Rahy, Sky Mesa, Smarty Jones, War Chant and Yes

It's True,

as well as Awesome Again, Distorted Humor, El Prado (Ire), Malibu Moon and

Officer at other

farms. For more information, please contact Nick Adams at William Inglis & Son

According to the latest announcement from the New South Wales Department of

Primary Industries on Monday, 119 properties in the state have been infected

with EI.

"A

total of 835 horses are infected on these properties, while another 2,900 horses

are

considered suspect on a total of 319 properties," said Steve Dunn, deputy chief

veterinary

officer for the NSWDPI.

According to a statement, the state-imposed quarantine

restrictions

on infected properties "will be lifted 30 days after the onset of clinical signs

of equine

influenza in the last clinical case, but this would not override any movement

restrictions in

force at that time."

"This is a highly contagious disease," Dunn added. "Our

experience is that all

animals housed together, or close to infected horses are likely to get the

disease."

Authorities on Monday have granted in principle approval for a restricted race

meeting at

Warwick Farm Saturday, according to racingandsports.com.au. Only horses trained

at

Warwick Farm would be permitted to take part, and spectators will not be

allowed. A

tentative program of nine races has drawn 214 entries, including Group 1 winners

CAMARILLA Elusive Quality), FIUMICINO (Zabeel), MENTALITY (Flying

Spur) and

RENA'S LADY (Arena) for a 1400-meter handicap.

Magic Millions has announced that the Gold Coast Horses-in-Training Sale, slated

to take

place October 8-11, has been postponed due to the EI crisis. The sales company is

in talks with

authorities to stage the auction the following month, either November 12-15 or 26-29. The

confirmed dates will be posted next week on www.magicmillions.com.au.
