The signature event of the 2025-26 winter meet at Turfway Park, the $777,000 Jeff Ruby (G3), anchors a 13-race program on Saturday afternoon. The Road to the Kentucky Derby prep has attracted a field of 12 to go 1 1/8 miles over the Tapeta strip.

Two California-based colts appear likely to garner considerable support. Stark Contrast has two wins in three stakes attempts, his one setback being by less than a length as a 58-1 outsider in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). Medici, meanwhile, earned a belated maiden win two back in his fifth attempt, and followed up with a nose loss in the Pasadena S.

In addition to Stark Contrast and Medici, there are other turf specialists trying synthetic for the first time. Argos, victorious last September in the Summer (G1), adds blinkers after finishing fifth in the Colonel Liam S. at Gulfstream in his season debut. Grade 2-placed Turf Star was similarly unplaced in his season debut at Gulfstream in late January, while Black Hornet enters off a strong tally in the Black Gold S. at Fair Grounds for Brendan Walsh.

Fulleffort, who fell a jump short of winning the John Battaglia Memorial last month, is sure to appreciate the extra sixteenth of the Jeff Ruby. Two Out Hero, a stakes winner on turf and third in the Summer last season at Woodbine, lost all chance in the Battaglia after stumbling at the start. Chaos Agent concedes experience to the rest, but won well on debut in a Feb. 5 maiden over Gulfstream's synthetic surface.

The Jeff Ruby offers Kentucky Derby (G1) qualifying points of 100-50-25-15-10 to the respective top finishers.

A dozen three-year-old fillies will attempt to secure a spot in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) with a win in the $300,000 Bourbonette Oaks over 1 1/16 miles. Qualifying points of 50-25-15-10-5 will be awarded to the respective top five finishers.

Resplendence, who lulled her rivals to sleep wiring the Cincinnati Trophy last month, will again meet Lovely Grey and Resist. Scratch It, stakes-placed on the grass in both New York and California last term, makes her first start since early October, while Bless Her enters off a dominating synthetic maiden win at Gulfstream. Loralei Lee also has potential in her first two-turn assignment for trainer Mike Maker.
