Journalism pegged at 4-1. Sandman 8-1 in Pool 6 of Kentucky Derby Future Wager

Pool 6, the final pool of Kentucky Derby Future Wager (KDFW), will open its three-day run Thursday at noon (ET) and close Saturday at 4 p.m., prior to the final three major qualifiers in the Road the Kentucky Derby Challenge series: the $750,000 Wood Memorial (Grade 2), $1.25 million Blue Grass (G1) and $500,000 Santa Anita Derby (G1). 

Note: Keeneland's Friday card has been pushed to Monday, and Saturday's racing will take place on Tuesday due to severe weather forecast for this upcoming weekend. 

San Felipe (G2) winner Journalism, who will make his final prep in the Santa Anita Derby for the $5 million Kentucky Derby (G1) on May 3, is expected to lead the betting, installed as the 4-1 favorite on oddsmaker Mike Battaglia’s morning line.

Next comes Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Sandman at 8-1, and champion two-year-old male Citizen Bull is tabbed as the 10-1 third choice in advance of the Santa Anita Derby.

Pool 6 will offer bettors the option to play 39 individual horses, plus a 40th option for “All Other 3-Year-Olds” not listed.

Wagering for Pool 6 opens Thursday at noon through TwinSpires.com, as well as simulcast and ADW outlets nationwide. Like the first five pools, win and exacta wagering is offered.

In total, there are 14 new entrants in Pool 6 than Pool 5: Admiral Dennis, American Promise, Dragon (JPN), Final Gambit, Flying Mohawk, McAfee, My Mitole, Omaha Omaha, Passion Rules, Publisher, Render Judgment, Shin Forever, Statesman, and Tiger Twenty Four. 

There are no refunds in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager. Should Churchill Downs officials determine during the duration of this week’s three-day pool that one of the wagering interests has experienced an injury, illness, or other circumstance that would prevent the horse from participating in the Kentucky Derby, betting on the individual horse will be suspended immediately. Pool 6 will be the final pari-mutuel opportunity to wager on the Kentucky Derby prior to the race.
