Kentucky Downs closes out 2014 meet with stakes treble

Though two stakes were carded for

Kentucky Downs'

closing day on Wednesday, three ended up being run as the Kentucky Downs Ladies

Marathon was split into two divisions.

Jake Ballis and Rashard Lewis' White Rose took the $190,000

first division of the Ladies Marathon with jockey Shaun Bridgmohan aboard.

The Bill Mott-trained four-year-old bided her time in midpack before angling out

rounding the far turn. The gray Tapit filly ran down pacesetter La Malaguena in

the final yards and was 1 3/4 lengths clear of that rival while finishing 1 5/16

miles on the firm turf in 2:13 3/5.

La Malaguena was on top of a blanket finish, getting her nose in front of

Angegreen to take second. It was a head back to Street of Gold in fourth, while

9-5 favorite Cat's Claw filled out the fifth spot another head back. A

half-length separated the favorite and Via Villaggio, who got her nose in front

of Sky High Lady on the wire. Another length saw Customer Base cross under the

line while holding Ann of the Dance by a neck. Bissectrisa and I'm Your Luv

completed the order of finish.

White Rose was the near 5-1 third choice and returned $11.80. The

Kentucky-bred earned her first stakes win in this spot while improving her

career mark to 16-4-4-2, $317,899.

One race later, Angel Terrace came from the rear of the $109,600

second division of the Ladies Marathon to get the best of leader I O Ireland

by 1 1/2 lengths. Jockey Florent Geroux was aboard as the Ghostzapper mare

finished up in 2:12 1/5 for trainer Jonathan Sheppard.

Tabreed, the 5-2 public's choice, followed in third while rounding out the

field were Always Kitten, Topic, Baby Fresh, City of Trix, Honey Lake, Auld

Alliance and Any Given Chance. Lady Aspen and Sparkling Review were withdrawn.

Campaigned by breeder George Strawbridge's Augustin Stable, Angel Terrace was

worth $14.40 as the 6-1 fifth choice. This was the five-year-old chestnut's

first victory since her initial stakes win in the 2012 Valley View at

Keeneland. The

granddaughter of champion Storm Song also owns four stakes-placings and now

boasts a 17-4-3-3, $294,415 lifetime record.

Following the distaffers, 10 colts and geldings lined up in the $136,200

Kentucky Downs Turn Dash. Riverside Bloodstock LLC's Dimension rallied for a

neck score over Something Extra, who in turn got his neck in front of 8-5

favorite Undrafted. It was another nose back to fourth-placer Stormy Going.

Big Blue Spirit, Todge, Expecting Cash, Banzai Charge, Catalactic and Pataky

Kid followed while Keg Party, Mongol Bull, No Distinction, Rugged and To My

Valentine were all withdrawn.

Dimension was piloted by jockey Chris Landeros, who subbed for Corey Lanerie

after he and Rafael Mojica Jr. were involved in a spill in the 6TH race. The duo

ran 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:17 for trainer Conor Murphy.

A Medicean half-brother to multiple Group 2 heroine and One Thousand Guineas

runner-up Spacious, Dimension added a second stakes win to his resume following

victory in the Play the King last August at

Woodbine. The dark bay gelding was fifth in the Woodbine Mile and

Breeders' Cup Turf

Sprint to close out 2013.

Thus far this year, Dimension has placed in the Commonwealth Stakes at

Keeneland and the Play the King while running ninth in the Connaught Cup. The

six-year-old's line now reads 25-5-6-1, $369,538.
