Kingsgate Native to target July Cup

Last updated: 6/22/08 6:46 PM

John Mayne's Golden Jubilee S. (Eng-G1) hero KINGSGATE NATIVE (Mujadil) will

tackle the July Cup (Eng-G1) in his next start. Following his 1 1/4-length score

over WAR ARTIST (Orpen) in Saturday's six-furlong contest, the sophomore is on

course to meet the runner-up again in Newmarket's July 11 contest.

"He's come out of the race very well, with no problems," trainer John Best

told PA Sport. "(Jockey) Seb (Sanders) said there was more to come, and the

horse saw the six furlongs out very well. He's bred to get the trip and we were

pretty sure he would see it out, but you never know until they do it on the

track. His next race will almost certainly be the July Cup, and then the

Nunthorpe S. ([Eng-G1] at York on August 22), which he won last year."

Meanwhile, Susan Magnier's MYBOYCHARLIE (Danetime), who was withdrawn from

the Golden Jubilee S., is being prepared for a tilt at the Prix Maurice de

Gheest (Fr-G1), his connections revealed Sunday. Taken out of the Royal contest

due to the prevalent fast ground, the Tommy Stack-trained sophomore may have a

warm-up before the August 10 Deauville sprint.

"I walked the track at Ascot and felt that the ground was a bit quicker on

the stands' side, and we were drawn on the wide outside in stall 20 and could

have been a bit isolated," the trainer's son and assistant, Fozzy, told PA

Sport. "It's possible he could run in the Sapphire S. (Ire-G3) at the Curragh

next weekend, but that's over five furlongs, so it's not ideal. We want to get a

run into him before his next main objective, the Maurice de Gheest at Deauville

in August."

The colt triumphed in the Prix Morny (Fr-G1) at that venue last year.
