Lightmyfirebaby wins Las Cienegas

via disqualification

Richard J. O'Neill Trust's LIGHTMYFIREBABY (Unusual Heat) was moved to first from

second following the disqualification of Bahama Mama (Ire) (Invincible Spirit)

in the $112,700

Las Cienegas

H. (G3) at Santa Anita on Sunday. Sent off at 9-1, Lightmyfirebaby paid $21.60, $8.80 and $5.40 while keying the $1 gimmicks

worth

$38.40 (exacta), $239.60 (trifecta) and $2,289.80 (6-7-8-2 superfecta) under Alex

Solis.

Bahama Mama sped from her two post and led the field through opening splits

of :22 and :44 3/5. The early leader bore out as she crossed the main track

portion of the turf course approaching the final turn, interfering with both the

eventual winner and fourth-place finisher Super Freaky (Smart Strike). Once

Bahama Mama straightened her course, she found another gear to complete the

about 6

1/2 furlongs on the firm sod in 1:13 1/5, but her fate had already been decided

and she was eventually placed fourth. Wake Up Maggie (Ire) (Xaar), the 7-5

favorite, was last early but finished with a solid run to be third and was

boosted to second by the stewards. She paid $4 and $3. Super Freaky was awarded

third and gave back $6 at nearly 10-1. Bahama Mama capped the super at 20-1.

Red Diadem (GB) (Pivotal) was next and trailed by Macadamia (Artax), Stormin

Mon (Maria's Mon), Shermeen (Ire) (Desert Style), Good Mood (Ire) (Danehill

Dancer), Justice is Brief (Lit de Justice) and 5-1 second choice Ingrid the

Gambler (Johannesburg). Pat the Cool Cat (Sir Cat) was withdrawn.

Lightmyfirebaby notched her second stakes win of the year following a tally

in the Irish O'Brien S. two back. The five-year-old now boasts $293,546 in earnings

from a 17-5-2-2 lifetime mark. The California-bred was second in the Valentine

Dancer H. in her latest effort just seven days ago.

Bred by David Abrams et al's, the dark bay is out of True Melody (Valid

Appeal) and was preceded in stakes glory by her half-sister Miss Guts (American

Chance). The Barry Abrams trainee has an unnamed yearling full sister.
