Mach Ride out of Sprint
Smile Sprint H. (G2) winner MACH RIDE (Pentelicus) will be forced to miss
next Saturday's $2 million Breeders' Cup Sprint (G1), trainer Steve Standridge
informed Breeders' Cup officials Saturday morning. Standridge revealed that the
four-year-old colt has been battling a foot abscess.
A multiple stakes winner at his home base of Calder, Mach Ride shipped to
Belmont for the September 30 Vosburgh S. (G1) and rallied for fourth after a
troubled start. Since then, the bay had remained at Belmont to prepare for the
Breeders' Cup.
With the defection of Mach Ride, there are 14 pre-entries left in the Sprint,
including the lone also-eligible, FOREFATHERS (Gone West), who will now be able
to draw into the field.
