Macho Uno represented by first winner

Last updated: 6/9/07 9:48 PM

Champion and Grade 1 winner MACHO UNO (Holy Bull) had his first winner as a

sire Friday evening when his juvenile daughter Swifty Victress captured the 9TH

race at Evangeline Downs. Trained by Anthony Agilar and ridden in that

five-furlong test by Sylvester Carmouche Jr., the gray lass led throughout,

dominating by 6 1/2 lengths at the line while stopping the clock in :59 3/5.

Macho Uno rose to prominence as a juvenile, winning three of his

four races that season, including the Breeders' Cup Juvenile S. (G1) at

Churchill Downs and Woodbine's Grey Breeders' Cup S. (Can-G1), as well as

placing third in the Hopeful S. (G1). The Kentucky-bred gray returned as a

three-year-old to take the Pennsylvania Derby (G3) and finish third in the Ohio

Derby (G2), before a nice fourth in the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) behind Tiznow. Trained by Joe Orseno, he made his five-year-old bow a winning one,

capturing an allowance at Gulfstream Park, before adding the Massachusetts H.

(G2) to his record. He also placed in the Suburban H. (G2) and was fourth in the

Whitney H. (G1). Macho Uno ended his racing career with a fifth in the 2002

Breeders' Cup Classic, racking up $1,851,803 in lifetime earnings to go along

with a 14-6-1-3 career mark.

Macho Uno is out of the winning Blushing Groom (Fr) mare Primal Force, who

was named Broodmare of the Year in 2000. The 20-year-old mare is also the dam of

1998 Breeders' Cup Classic hero and leading stallion Awesome Again (Deputy

Minister), who is the sire of 2004 Horse of the Year and Breeders' Cup Classic

victor Ghostzapper, 2004 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Wilko and last year's

Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1) queen Round Pond, just to name a few.

The nine-year-old Macho Uno stands at Adena Springs South near Williston,

Florida, for a live foal fee of $12,500.
