Malibu Moon colt leads the way at Fasig-Tipton

A colt by Malibu Moon brought $375,000 at Tuesday's Fasig-Tipton July Sale at

the Newtown Paddocks near Lexington, Kentucky. The February 3 Kentucky-bred was

gaveled down to trainer Kenny McPeek, agent for Magic City, and was consigned by

CandyLand, agent.

Hip No. 86 was produced by the stakes-placed Uncontrollable (Wild Again), who

has also reared the stakes-placed siblings Southern Truth and Meistersinger,

both by Yes It's True. The sale topper's second dam was the multiple stakes

winner Graceful Minister (Deputy Minister), who in turn was produced by the

Grade 2-winning Cagey Exuberance (Exuberant).

IEAH Racing Corp. secured a War Front colt for $300,000 on Tuesday. The March

23 yearling was consigned by Hunter Valley Farm, agent, and sported Hip 104.

Produced by With Golden Wings (Seeking the Gold), the colt counts as a second

dam the Canadian Grade 3 winner Sky Alliance (Sky Classic), who hails from the

family of Grade 3 winner Sky Mom (Maria's Mom).

The Kentucky-bred RNA'd for $120,000 at the Fasig-Tipton November Sale last

fall.

A Tapit colt, Hip 299, sold to Bradley Thoroughbreds, agent, for $280,000.

The March 3 yearling was consigned by Gainesway, agent.

The Kentucky-bred is the first registered foal out of Muir Station (Street

Cry), a half-sister to Shakis (Machiavellian), a two-time winner of the Grade 2

Bernard Baruch Handicap.

This is the extended family of champion older mare Glorious Song, the dam of

champion grass horse Singspiel (In the Wings) and noted sire Rahy (Blushing

Groom); juvenile champion Devil's Bag; and leading sire Saint Ballado. Glorious

Song, Devil's Bag and Saint Ballado were all sired by Halo and produced by the *Herbager

mare Ballade.

The sale's highest-priced filly was a Sky Mesa daughter of multiple

stakes-winner Our Fantene, which attracted a final bid of $270,000 from trainer

Mark Casse, agent. Offered by Joe Dodgen, agent, the Pennsylvania-bred toured

the ring as Hip 313.

The February 7 yearling counts as a second dam the stakes-winning Our

Cozzette (Cozzene), and her third dam is Grade 2 winner Avie's Fancy (Lord Avie).

The latter also reared Grade 2 winner St Averil (Saint Ballado).

The one-day auction posted gains in gross and average, but there was no

change in the median at the conclusion of selling. On Tuesday, 189 yearlings

sold for $15,364,000, a 15.1 percent increase over last year when $13,349,000

was realized from the sale of 191 head. The sale average rose 16.3 percent, from

$69,890 to $81,291, while the median was level with last year at $60,000.
